Ses Balandres, IBIZA
Ses Balandres is a secret rocky cove, and possibly has the most difficult descent in Ibiza to access the beach.
To reach it, you must manoeuvre a tricky wooden ladder, and climb a rope down a rocky slope, not ideal for those with a fear of heights, but a worthwhile trip for the adventurous. Years ago, Hippies named it ‘Heaven’s Gate’.

BEACHES
The waters are pristine, but the beach itself is a very small strip of pebbles, rocks and gravel that disappears when the tide rises. The cliffs tower around the Cove in a U-shape, giving it an air of magnificence and grandeur. Fishermen have built sheds along the beach by etching into the natural caves.

THINGS TO DO
In the middle of the cove, are rocks of Ses Margalides, which have formed a low sea arch, and is a popular spot for diving. Strong swimmers can swim to the rocks, but only in calm sea conditions. Many sailing boats anchor here for the view of Ses Margalides.
The journey up and down ‘Heaven’s Gate, is also a highlight, and why some visit Ses Balandres. It can take up to 45 minutes to descend, and 60 minutes to ascend.
ROAD ACCESS
Ses Balandres is in the north of Ibiza, about 2 km from Santa Agnes de Corona. It’s accessible by car, and you can park opposite Can Cami in Santa Agnes. From Pla de Corona road, you’ll see an old well, and after a stone fence, pass the houses. Follow this path through the forest, until you see the shore. Then you can start your trek down using a wooden ladder and ropes. Best to travel light, as the ascend and descend can be tiring.
